Smarter Together: AI’s Promise for a Fully Coordinated BIM-Spec Future
For decades, the design community has dreamed of a seamless link between BIM models and specifications-but the reality has been a patchwork of partial integrations, failed pilots, and over-promised automation. In this session, we’ll explore why earlier “BIM-to-Spec” attempts fell short, and how AI-assisted coordination tools may finally deliver meaningful progress.
Attendees will gain a practical understanding of what true coordination looks like-one that keeps architects, engineers, and specifiers in control, while allowing AI to eliminate redundant effort, reduce risk, and improve data consistency across the design-to-documentation process.
What You’ll Learn
By the end of the session, attendees will:
✅ Understand why past BIM-Spec automation efforts failed-and what’s different this time
✅ Be able to apply the Gartner Hype Curve to evaluate new design technologies and investments
✅ Recognize that coordination, not automation, is the attainable goal
✅ Learn how AI can enhance human expertise instead of replacing it
